Evan Mackley

B. 1940 - 2019

A long-term antique and art dealer and a successful restaurateur, Evan Mackley was also an avid collector of antiques, art and the insane, and he always showed plenty of entrepreneurial flair.

A painter in oil, Evan prefers to categorise himself as a decorator rather than an artist. After only a short while of full-time painting, he has developed a unique Naïve-Impressionist style of painting.

Working mostly with a pallet knife, Evan chooses to exaggerate the technical reality of his subject matter. He takes colour to new extremes as well as the forms or events topical at the time. Typical subject matter for his works are; flowers, animals, sporting events, scenery and themes from a vivid imagination.

Sadly, Evan passed away December 29, 2019. He leaves an enormous legacy in his wake, with family including wife Barbara and children Lynn and Simon. The Mackley’s have a property called Olde Horsham Village where a restaurant, motor-inn and his beloved antiques and art business continue to trade. He reckoned 'The Carnival Is Over', but it is only just begun.
