Patricia Piccinini
Patricia Piccinini is among Australia’s preeminent contemporary artists. Her work interrogates pertinent questions around technology, bioethics, empathy and futurism, producing hyper-realistic scenarios that bend the boundaries between familiar and alien, real and artificial, and endearing and grotesque.
In 2003, Piccinini represented Australia at the 50th Venice Biennale. Her work is featured in numerous state collections, including at the National Gallery of Victoria and National Gallery of Australia. In 2013, the Australian Capital Territory commissioned her to produce ‘Skywhale’, a sculpture commemorating the city’s centenary.
