‘Lil Birdie’ is an avian ode. In his distinct emotional prose, son of Charles Blackman, Auguste Blackman pictures a baby bird. The birds plumage is vibrant, an armoury of bright colours concealing the chicks fuzzy body.
On birds, Blackman muses: “all the plants, flowers, trees, places she has been. Conversation she has had. Songs she has sung. Babies she has made.” He urges us to not let this be her swansong, but rather a call to care for the environment.
For collectors of Blackman, neo-expressionist art and bird lovers tune into ‘Lil Birdie’.
