From the private collection of Charles Blackman, ‘Pirate Dancer’ is an ebullient ink on paper. In minimal lines, he sketches a dancer on the precipice of a leap.
Blackman was immensely inspired by dance. He worked with the West Australian Ballet to produce backcloths for numerous ballets, including A Midsummer Night’s Dream. A true romantic, Blackman’s flare for beauty and verve was singular.
For collectors of modern art and important works on paper, ‘Pirate Dancer’ is an enamouring find. It is accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity from the Charles Blackman Foundation.
