David Frazer is one of Australia’s preeminent printmakers. His imagery, which is often set in the landscape, is a feat of both technical and narrative ability. As Australian journalist Martin Flanagan reflected, Frazer’s vision both soars above and is “nevertheless implanted” in the land. 

In ‘On the Edge of Town (By Day)’, Frazer presents the outskirts of a town. The scene is dappled with nostalgia, as though seen by someone who grew up here but has since left. All who were young in a town, know that it is on the city fringes that boundaries are tested and rebuilt. This work is a short film in one still.

Frazer has won numerous awards for his prints, including major prize winner at the 1st International Print Biennale; the Broken Hill Outback Prize; won the Acquisitive award and people’s choice at the Fremantle Print Awards and Banyule Works on Paper Award. In 2007, the ABC produced a documentary on the artist. His work is held across public collections and internationally, at the National Museum of China and the Royal Academy of Art in London.
