Frequently featuring cats, birds and foxes, her practice explores the interplay between domestic spaces, emotional interiority and animal symbolism. In Gobey’s work, these creatures become more than subjects, acting as both guardians and as mirrors of our inner lives.

In her arched painting 'As Above, So Below', Gobey presents an inviting garden vista, where two resident cats inhabit a tranquil domestic landscape. Vivid colours bring warmth and vitality to the scene, evoking the unhurried pleasures of a summer’s day. Intimate and quietly joyful, the work captures a fleeting moment of domestic serenity.

Over her career, Gobey has exhibited extensively in galleries both overseas and across Australia, including being featured in the group exhibition ‘Prelude’, held at Australian Galleries. Gobey has been selected as a finalist in numerous art prizes, including the National Emerging Art Prize in 2026, and the Wyndham Art Prize. For collectors of imaginative landscape works, Janice Gobey’s paintings are a joyful discovery.

Janice GOBEY (1963 - )
'As Above, So Below'
oil on arched board birch panel with imitation gold leaf edges
Image Size: 54 x 45 cm
Dimensions: 54 x 45 cm
Comes with Letter of Provenance
Condition:Excellent:
(c) Janice Gobey / Copyright Agency
