jones-shane-full-moon-with-rains-18578
Shane Jones 'Full Moon with Rainstorm'

With an art practice spanning more than fifty years, Shane Jones is renowned for his evocative and detailed oil paintings. Partially based in Ballarat, but originally from the seaside suburb of Mordialloc, Jones draws deeply on his relationship with and sensitivity to the Australian landscape, translating his observations of the land into atmospheric scenes.

In his 2024 painting ‘Full Moon with Rainstorm’, Jones creates an evocative impression of a rainy winter’s evening. Before our eyes, a darkened field stretches towards the horizon, where a solitary full moon illuminates the clouds and rain-filled sky. Through softly rendered drops of rain and subtle shifts in light and tone, Jones imbues the scene with a deeply atmospheric quality, drawing the viewer into the quiet mood of the landscape.

Across his fifty year career, Jones has exhibited in both solo and group exhibitions across Australia, and he has been selected as a finalist in several national prizes, including the Doug Moran National Portrait Prize and the Swan Hill Print and Drawing Award. His work is held in several significant public collections, such as the Art Gallery of Ballarat, State Library of Victoria, and the National Gallery of Australia. For collectors of striking landscape paintings, Shane Jones’ works are an evocative discovery.

Shane JONES (1955 - )
'Full Moon with Rainstorm' 2024
oil on linen
Image Size: 82 x 102 cm
Dimensions: 84 x 105 x 5 cm
Signed: Inscribed with name, title and year on verso.

Comes with Letter of Provenance

Condition:Excellent:

(c) The Artist or Assignee
