Partially based in Ballarat, but originally from the seaside suburb of Mordialloc, Jones draws deeply on his relationship with and sensitivity to the Australian landscape, translating his observations of the land into atmospheric scenes.

In his 2022 painting 'Mist After the Rain', Jones captures the atmospheric beauty of Lake Wendouree near Ballarat. Balancing the fine details of the trees and foreground with the softened forms of the water and distant lights, Jones creates a scene that feels both familiar and dreamlike. The lingering haze transforms the landscape, imbuing the work with a quiet sense of stillness.

Across his fifty year career, Jones has exhibited in both solo and group exhibitions across Australia, and he has been selected as a finalist in several national prizes, including the Doug Moran National Portrait Prize and the Swan Hill Print and Drawing Award. His work is held in several significant public collections, such as the Art Gallery of Ballarat, State Library of Victoria, and the National Gallery of Australia. For collectors of striking landscape paintings, Shane Jones’ works are an evocative discovery.

Shane JONES (1955 - )
'Mist After the Rain' 2022
oil on canvas
Image Size: 31 x 41 cm
Dimensions: 34 x 44 x 6 cm
Signed: Inscribed with name, title and year on verso.

Comes with Letter of Provenance

Condition:Excellent:

(c) The Artist or Assignee
