Claude Monet’s ‘Vase of Lillies’ is among his most famous paintings. Created in 1885, it was apparently intended to spur a generation of painters — Monet was a vanguard in his time, his impressionist paintings rousing shock and outrage among critics. Yet, the French artist remained headstrong, leaving an indomitable legacy in his wake.

In his iteration, Philippe Le Miere pays homage to Monet’s memory, the strength of his composition and palette. He turns the saturation up, painting blue stalks shooting from a vessel, erupting into incandescent bulbs. They are live wires, alive despite the genre — still life.

The internet is peppered with videos of artists painting Monet’s ‘Vase of Lillies’. Le Miere speaks to this impulse, to how paintings are passed down and reimagined, given new connotations from the iconoclastic to the iconic and familiar.

For collectors of expressionist and contemporary art, ‘After Claude Monet Tulips’ is a thought-provoking and visually striking find.
