le-miere-philippe-smart-school-girl-18611
Philippe Le Miere 'Smart School Girl'

In 'Smart School Girl', Melbourne-based artist Philippe Le Miere brings together the visual worlds of two of Australia’s most celebrated artists, Charles Blackman and Jeffrey Smart. Borrowing Blackman’s iconic leaping schoolgirl and placing her within a distinctly Smart-esque bus stop setting, Le Miere creates a playful dialogue between two defining visions of Australian modernism.

Rendered in the artist’s signature painterly style, the schoolgirl propels herself away from the distant bus, and towards the viewer. Using a heightened palette and thick, textural brushwork, Le Miere animates the scene, imbuing it with a palpable sense of movement and play.

For collectors drawn to contemporary art with a knowing nod to Australian modernism, 'Smart School Girl' is a particularly clever find.

Philippe LE MIERE (1975 - )
'Smart School Girl' 2026
acrylic on canvas
Image Size: 38 x 51 cm
Dimensions: 38 x 51 cm
Signed: Signed lower right Le Miere, inscribed verso Philippe Le Miere, title and date

Comes with Letter of Provenance

Work of art comes unframed to allow for safe and economical shipping.
