Damon Kowarsky is an esteemed contemporary artist. He is inspired by architecture, the colours of the earth and sky, and relationship between nature and non-natural worlds. ‘M’, created for a print exchange curated by Rona Green in 2007, is an unusual image. Using a printmaking technique Korwarsky evokes his preferred medium of colour pencils, drawing a striking, skull-like face. The effect is quirky and chilling, a character from a Tim Burton film stares back, eyes empty. In 2018, Warrnambool Art Gallery undertook a substantial survey exhibition of Kowarsky’s work. In 2019, he participated in the 12th Art Colony Studenica in a 44th Century monastery in the Serbian mountains. For collectors of graphic works, ‘M’ is a striking find.
