His pared-back, minimal oil paintings operate as meditative spaces - windows into the artist’s own introspections and his reflections on the world’s shifting emotional and environmental states. Through light, nature and portraiture, Meagher traces the cyclical passage of time, revealing how the built and natural worlds continually renew, erode and transform.

In 'Popcorn storm', Meagher uses a limited colour palette and minimal, gestural brushstrokes to capture fleeting, transitional moments of nature. His artistic language finds beauty in simplicity, and the subtlety of his mark-making shows how he borrows aesthetically from Impressionist modes of expression.

Meagher has been a finalist in major awards including the Archibald Portrait Prize in 2014, 2015, 2018, 2021, 2024 and the Wynne Prize in 2015. He has exhibited widely across Australia and internationally and is held in public collections such as Artbank, the Australian War Memorial, Canberra, and at the University of Sydney. For lovers of contemporary Australian painting, Meagher's 'Popcorn' is a compelling discovery.

Julian MEAGHER (1978 - )
'Popcorn Storm'
oil on canvas
Image Size: 41 x 36 cm
Dimensions: 44 x 39 x 5 cm
Comes with Letter of Provenance

Condition:Very Good:

(c) The Artist or Assignee
