ryrie-john-studio-18515
John Ryrie 'Studio'

Drawn to the woodcuts prints of late 19th century Edvard Munch (the artist best known for ‘The Scream’), Japanese artist Shiko Munakata and the work of William Blake, John Ryrie has established himself as an adept storyteller through the medium of printmaking.

Ryrie’s ‘Studio’ depicts an artist at work: although not with pencil in hand, as one might expect. Clasping a fish under his left arm, the artist appears to use this scaly sea creature as the tool for his craft. A scene of familiar objects transformed into humorous juxtaposition, Ryrie’s work is an amusing take on the often unconventional practices of artists dwelling in their studios.

Ryrie is an esteemed printmaker. He was awarded the Grand Prize in the Silk Cut Award for Linocut Prints and a finalist in the Geelong acquisitive print awards, and is represented at the National Gallery of Australia. For collectors of contemporary prints and visual storytelling, ‘Studio’ is a delightful work.

John RYRIE (1961 - )
'Studio' 2002
linocut on paper
Edition of 50
Image Size: 37 x 24 cm
Dimensions: 56 x 57 cm
Signed: Signed 'John Ryrie', editioned, titled, dated lower margin

Comes with Letter of Provenance

Condition:Excellent:

(c) John Ryrie / Copyright Agency
