The old romantic tale is transformed into a very 1960s vocabulary of sex, colour, humour and a healthy dose of visual excess.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe work came out of Sharp’s extraordinary London years as art director of the underground magazine Oz, where he gleefully poked holes in respectable society and its rules around censorship, sex and convention. Sex! was published by Big O Posters Ltd, established in 1967 specifically to promote and distribute Sharp’s distinctive psychedelic graphics. Like his celebrated designs for Cream and Jimi Hendrix, the image belongs to the visual language of Swinging London - but it also carries something unmistakably Sharp: surrealism, humour, sexual innuendo and a gleeful disregard for good taste.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003ePrinted in vivid black, blue and pink on reflective silver foil, Sex! was made to grab attention - and it still does.
