Amanda Upton’s visual world is equal parts whimsical and mysterious. Her characters occupy richly detailed scenes, sometimes fantastical, sometimes familiar. In ‘A Dream’, a tattooed spirit glides across the suburban sky, her trusty feline in tow. A crescent moon winks down at them.
Upton is an acclaimed artist and illustrator. Her work was included in Luerzers Archive Magazine collection of the world’s best illustrators and she was a Walkley Award finalist in 2000. She began her career as a cadet illustrator for the Courier Mail, then Sydney Morning Herald.
Reminiscent of magic realism, Upton’s vision finds the magic in everyday life. Her vision is bewitching and female-first. For collectors of contemporary prints and works on paper, behold ‘A Dream’.
