Pop Art
Pop Art is one of the world’s favourite art movements. Made famous by Andy Warhol and Roy Lichstenstein, British artist Richard Hamilton described it in 1957 as “Young, witty, sexy, gimmicky, glamorous”. It is characterised by an engagement with popular culture and can include printmaking, collage, painting and sculpture. Australia has its own rich Pop Art tradition, with artists like Steve Rosendale, Philippe Le Miere, Rona Green and Jasper Knight dealing up recognisable, irreverent and thought-provoking eye-candy.
