Known for his irreverent and exuberant style, David Larwill made his artistic debut as a founding member of Roar Studios. One of Melbourne’s earliest artist-run-initiatives, this studio pioneered raw, primitive and conceptual art – acting as a proverbial roar against society.

The hand-signed ‘Navajo’ is a captivating composition. Scattered across a delicious musk-pink backdrop are Larwill’s distinctive figures and forms. There are men, women and children, animals, symbols and numbers, uniting to create a visual cacophony. It embodies Larwill’s approach to art: frenetic, energetic and yet still cool.

Larwill is represented in most regional and state collections, including at the National Gallery of Australia and Art Gallery of New South Wales. He has been honored with an Art Series Hotel and is the subject of a major monograph by art historian Ken McGregor. A statement piece for collections of Roar, important Australian and contemporary art and neo-expressionism, this hand-signed archival pigment will breathe new life in your space.
