New to Angela Tandori Fine Art, in this series of limited edition fine art prints, Jim Thalassoudis looks to the sky. Expansive, intense and immaculately presented, his work celebrates the neon lights that bejewel our urban sky. 

Like oil on water, Thalassoudis’s scenes shimmer beneath the eye. They fixate on neon signs - in particular Melbourne’s iconic Little Audrey - for Skipping Girl Vinegar and the crown which adorns the Regal Theatre in Subiaco, Perth - turning what was once denigrated as visual pollution, into urban icons.

In an exclusive collaboration with APositive, the artist developed an app which employs AR (augmented reality) to bring the iconic Skipping Girl to life.

For Thalassoudis, the sky is steeped in life, death and beauty. The shifting of day to night is for him, the poetry of colour. With notes of the sublime, his work compels the viewer to face the setting sun, the clouds tinged yellow, pink, blue and purple by pollution. In this way, he renders familiar subject matter anew.

Among his generation’s most formidable colourists, Thalassoudis has exhibited regularly throughout Australia, South-East Asia and the United States since the mid-1980s. In 2015, he was a finalist in the Wynne Prize and has been acquired by the Art Gallery of South Australia, the Parliament House Collection, selected regional and tertiary institutions, as well as notable corporate and private collections in Australia and abroad.
