Welcome to Dream Image from The Masterwork Series by Charles Blackman. In Dream Image, Charles Blackman teases out the space between dreams. After being hospitalised in the early 1960s, Barbara Blackman began knitting a quilt that with each square, asserted her tenacity in the face of failing eyesight, immobility and life with three young children. Here, with unsparing awe Charles pays homage to her - finding Barbara safe beneath her quilt as she ventures into the world of dreams. This portrait aches of the reverence and worry we have for those we love.

The Masterworks Series is an unprecedented revival of Charles Blackman's oeuvre, gleaned from the artists powerful image making from of the late 1950s and early 1960s. Vital to the images in this series are experiences recognizable to us all. From lost love to the inevitable close of childhood - Charles Blackman's ability to feel the beauty and pain of life through his art is core to what makes him a living legend.
