Ethel Jackson Morris

Ethel Jackson Morris was an Australian artist and illustrator best known for her work in the acclaimed children’s books ‘All Among the Fairies’ (1909) and ‘The White Butterfly’ (1921). Born in Melbourne in 1891, Jackson Morris attended the National Gallery of Victoria Art School from 1910 to 1920.
From an early age, Jackson Morris was celebrated for her illustrations of whimsical and fantastical scenes. Producing her first book in 1909 at the age of 17, over the next 13 years Jackson Morris exhibited works with the Victorian Artist’s Society and produced a secondary children’s book in 1921 before leaving Australia in 1922.
Jackson Morris’s whimsical illustrations and copies of her children’s books are held within major Australian institutions including the National Gallery of Victoria, National Library of Australia, and the State Library of Victoria.
