Fred Cress
B. 1938 - 2009.
Frederick Harold 'Fred' Cress was a British-Australian artist. In 1988, he won the Archibald Prize with a portrait of fellow artist John Beard. Cress is known for his visions of ordinary people in surreal situations. Performing unaware of the viewer, each character appears deeply engaged in their own world.
Cress's works continue to be collected, admired and are represented in most public galleries.
