Greg Irvine
The work of Melbourne born artist Greg Irvine seamlessly blends the worlds of art and craft, taking to ceramics, costume and set design as easily as printmaking and painting.
After completing his studies at the National Gallery of Victoria Art School in 1966, Irvine commenced a career in art that is in a way indistinguishable from his life. His home and studio in South Melbourne acts as a shrine to his love of beautiful design, with his collection of eclectic fabrics and antiques forming inspiration for his paintings.
Greg Irvine’s work has been collected by the Royal Collection of Buckingham Palace, the National Gallery of Australia, and the Ian Potter Museum in Melbourne, as well as several private collections abroad including New York, Paris and Hong Kong. Though they might be found in a royal residence, his bright and vivacious imagery works just as well at a production by the Australian Ballet, on the public promenades of St Kilda or in a collector’s home.
