Henoch Raberaba
B. 1914- 1975
Henoch Raberaba was a watercolourist and a founding member of the Hermannsburg Aboriginal Pastoralists Scheme. Belonging to the Western Arrernte language group, the same as Albert Namatjira, and living in a similar area, the two men worked closely, and in the 1930s they practiced craft-making together at the Hermannsburg mission.
In 1946, following a painting trip with Albert, Henoch began watercolour painting. The following year, Henoch would go on to sell more paintings than any other artist in the group. Many of Henoch’s paintings are done in the classic Hermannsburg School style, and feature the vast Australian outback.
Henoch Raberaba's works are held in the collections of many major institutions across Australia, including the National Gallery of Victoria, the National Gallery of Australia, and the Queensland Art Gallery, Gallery of Modern Art.
