Jazmina Cininas
B. 1965
Jazmina Cininas is a Melbourne-based artist, academic and curator. Her work centers around folklore - particularly the female werewolf - and in 2014 she completed a PhD titled ‘The Girlie Werewolf Hall of Fame: historical and contemporary figurations of the female lycanthrope’.
Exploring historical notions of femininity, Cininas’s work is deep, pertinent and whimsical. Her skills as a printmaker are equally impressive, demonstrating a mastery over the medium. Cininas has held prestigious residencies here and abroad and is represented in numerous public collections, including the National Gallery of Victoria, Melbourne and the National Gallery of Australia, Canberra.
