John Lennox

B. 1941 – 1996

John Lennox was an Australian artist who studied at the National Gallery of Victoria and the George Bell School. His work, while figurative, can be enigmatic – conjuring a realm that feels surreal, psychological and mysterious. In paintings of landscapes, figures and gardens, Lennox nostalgia, memory and the implantation of myth onto nature.

A collectable artist, Lennox’s work is represented at the Queensland Art Gallery, Benalla Art Gallery and St Vincent Hospital. In 1974, he was a finalist in the Wynne Prize and won the Camberwell Rotary Prize, and in 2008 was honoured with a touring retrospective at Benalla Art Gallery and Castlemaine Art Museum.
