John Neeson

B. 1948

John Neeson is an accomplished Australian artist. He describes his work as a “visual trip, or story with paths to follow and secrets to discover and a story unfolding as one progresses.” Indeed, there is a cartological or topographic quality to his work — a mapping of how it feels to walk the streets, what moments punctuate it, where inner and outer landscapes converge. These unconventional landscapes are mental wanderings, impressions of places Neeson has walked and thought over for years.

As well as a practising artist, Neeson is an academic, curator and writer. He is represented at ArtBank, the Australian National Gallery, National Gallery of Victoria and numerous tertiary and regional collections, and has exhibited to acclaim throughout his career.
