An accomplished printmaker and bookbinder, Australian artist John Ryrie’s work draws out the legends, myths and desires that underlie our culture. His work is inspired by the woodcuts prints of late 19th century Edvard Munch (the artist best known for ‘The Scream’), Japanese artist Shiko Munakata and the work of William Blake, employing composition, symbolism and perspective to tell stories.

Ryrie’s work is represented across public collections, including extensive holdings at the National Gallery of Victoria and National Gallery of Australia. He was awarded the Grand Prize in the Silk Cut Award for Linocut Prints and has been a finalist in the Geelong acquisitive print awards.
