Julian Meagher

B. 1978

Julian Meagher is a contemporary Australian artist whose works evoke a quiet sense of the sublime. His pared-back, minimal oil paintings operate as meditative spaces - windows into the artist’s own introspections and his reflections on the world’s shifting emotional and environmental states. Through light, nature and portraiture, Meagher traces the cyclical passage of time, revealing how the built and natural worlds continually renew, erode and transform.

Meagher has been a finalist in major awards including the Archibald Portrait Prize in 2014, 2015, 2018, 2021, 2024 and the Wynne Prize in 2015. He has exhibited widely across Australia and internationally and is held in public collections such as Artbank, the Australian War Memorial, Canberra, and at the University of Sydney.
