Katherine Hattam

Katherine Hattman is a contemporary Australian artist based in Melbourne, celebrated for her interdisciplinary practice, including her painting, drawing, collage, and sculpture. Her work fundamentally centers on interrogating language and its intersection with the core dialects of domesticity, family, and the self.

Hattman’s profound artistic vision is informed by her extensive education, which includes a BA in Literature and Politics, an MFA in Painting, and a PhD. Her studies inform her exploration of modern and postmodern thought, as well as themes of feminism, time, autobiography, and psychology. Through her works she often explores how space and everyday objects become intertwined with memory.

Highly regarded nationally, Hattman's works are represented across many major public collections, including the National Gallery of Australia, the National Gallery of Victoria, and the Heide Museum of Modern Art. She continues to dedicate her career to transforming the ordinary into poetic meditations, and her significant contributions have been recognized with numerous art prizes.
