Lewis Miller
B. 1959
Among Australia’s preeminent figurative and portrait painters, Lewis Miller’s work is visceral, tactile and immersive. A seventeen-time finalist and winner of the Archibald Prize for portraiture, Miller captures his subject’s essence rather than their appearance.
Whether still-lifes of seafood or self-portraits, his compulsion to create testifies to an artist who is infinitely fascinated by the world around him. In 2003, he was appointed Official Australian Artist by the Australian War Memorial and today, his work is represented in all major public collections, as well as many regional and university collections.
