Lisette Kohlhagen

B. 1890 – 1969

 

A South Australian artist, Lisette Kohlhagen studied under James Ashton and Miss McNamara, winning an award from the Royal Drawing Society in 1926. She was also part of the George Bell School, a student of Adelaide Perry and member of the “Group 9”, which also included Dorrit Black. 

 

Working across printmaking, painting, illustration and pottery, Kolhagen was also an art critic for the Adelaide News and a volunteer guide and lecturer for the Art Gallery of South Australia. A street in the Canberra suburb of Conder is named in her honour.
