Oscar Namatjira
B. 1922-1991
Artist Oscar Namatjira was the second son of Albert and Rubina. A skilled watercolourist, Oscar picked up painting in 1945 after returning to the Hermannsburg mission from the Army Labor Gang, where he served for three years. His artistic style is characteristic of the Hermannsburg school, often depicting the unique central Australian landscape in a considered and luminescent manner. Many works from early in his artistic career were signed by Os'k'ar Namatjira.
Oscar's work is collected by many major public institutions, including the National Gallery of Australia, National Gallery of Victoria and National Gallery of New South Wales.
