Pro Hart

B. 1928 – 2006

Kevin Charles Hart, better known as Pro Hart, stands among Australia’s most popular artists. Born in Broken Hill, New South Wales and raised on the family’s sheep property, he is a self-taught artist. He was discovered by Kim Bonython in 1960 after which he held his first solo exhibition at the Bonython Galleries in North Adelaide. In reference to his penchant for inventions, he is nicknamed “Pro” after “Professor”.

An icon of Australian art, Hart gave a voice to rural life, using his expressive brushwork to delight, narrate and communicate. His work can be found in several public collections including the National Gallery of Australia and Art Gallery of South Australia.
