Salvador Dalí
B.1904-1989
Spanish born artist Salvador Dalí was a key figure in the Surrealist movement, with a legacy as one of the most prolific artists of the 20th Century. While versatile over the span of his career, exploring many different mediums and subject matters, Dali’s signature works showcase highly technical and meticulously detailed paintings of dreamlike scenarios.
Themes of death, eroticism and fantasy permeate Dalí's work, reflective in his own eccentric personality. Dalí was trained as a painter in Madrid, later moving to the United States where he lived and worked from 1940-1955. As an integral figure in the movement, the Surrealists paved the way for other movements such as Abstract Expressionism, and Dalí is a continued influence for contemporary artists today.
With museums dedicated to the artist’s life and career in Spain, France and the United States, Dalí is also housed in many major museums and galleries across the world.
