Visit us to explore the possibilities of the Gallery Wall for your own home.

Gallery Walls answer the age-old problem of dwindling wall space. Also known as the Salon Hang, this interior design style sees multiple works populate the same wall, sometimes from top to bottom. They can present an opportunity to tell a story, add personality or start conversation, finding unexpected harmony in idiosyncrasy – a large canvas beside a small print, abstraction top-to-toe with pop art.

Whether you’re seeking a feature wall, battling limited real estate or have a curatorial agenda, here is how to execute a Gallery Wall in your own home.

Inside Art & Collectors

Sketch a Plan

As an interior design convention, the Gallery Wall is flexible. You can cover a wall top to bottom, keep works clustered above the couch or peppered along a hallway. Generally however, Gallery Walls work best with a focal point – a large or visually arresting work hung at eye level. You may also consider evenly dispersing works, ensuring they have room to breathe; while Gallery Walls do not need to be symmetrical, they should be balanced.

The Gallery Wall also suits aesthetic diversity, so embrace different framing styles, styles and mediums. Not everything needs to be expensive or loud.

Time to Hang

Once you have an idea of content and dispersion, cut out butcher paper in the dimensions of the works you intend to hang. These cut-outs will help you visualise the Gallery Wall and once pinned to the wall, provide a map of where to hammer in nails (for tips on installing art, click here). Once you have the art, plan and nails on the wall, hang, sit back and enjoy. You’ve curated a Gallery Wall.

Enduringly chic, the Gallery Wall is the hanging style we prefer for our own gallery – visit us for some inspiration.
