Melbourne-based artist Vivienne Adeney is recognised for her vibrant works that often reflect her own experience of being outdoors in nature. Often working in a woodblock printmaking, Adeney distinctly harnesses the sensual qualities of this chosen medium - preserving the grooves of the carving and highlighting the tactile wood grain to offer tangible representations of the natural environment.
‘Heat’ is a striking example of Adeney’s relationship with the depth and vividness of the Australian landscape. The print’s dry, earthy oranges and deep browns are grounding, reminiscent of the scents and touch of the Australian soil. Adeney’s distinct carvings flow and shimmer - skillfully evoking the hot, thick air so familiar to the depth of summer. Adeney’s work is nostalgic, rooted in a deep relationship with the Australian heat and the profound rhythms of our natural world.
Adeney has exhibited in several solo and group exhibitions across Australia and she has had prints commissioned by the Print Council of Australia. Her work is held by major public collections in Australia and internationally, including the State Library of Victoria, RMIT University Collection, and the Bandung Institute of Technology Collection in Indonesia. For collectors of landscape art and admirers of nature, Adeney’s works are certainly a compelling find.
