Rick Amor is among Australia’s most collectible artists. Best known for his psychologically charged landscapes and atmospheric scenes of everyday life, Amor’s practice is underpinned by a sharp political intelligence.

Early in his career, Amor became known for his works celebrating heroic physical labour and the works of union workers. Creating political cartoons and graphic works for left-wing and trade union papers, 'Metalworker at the Westgate Bridge' is a strong example of this political activism in action. The metalworker at the centre of this work appears solemn, overshadowed by the monolithic Westgate Bridge which stands above him. Amor's lithograph was created in 1978, eight years after the Westgate Bridge disaster, one of Australia's worst industrial accidents to date. This work is charged with recognition for this dark moment in Melbourne's history.

Amor has been the subject of numerous public exhibitions, including at the Art Gallery of South Australia, the National Portrait Gallery, Castlemaine Art Gallery, and Australian Print Workshop. His work is held in most major Australian institutional collections. Appointed Australia’s official war artist in 1999, Amor is also the subject of two major monographs. For collectors of works on paper and contemporary Australian art, this signed lithograph from the original serigraph offers a compelling insight into the political origins of one of the country’s most significant artists.
