In 1973, a printmaking studio in Venice – Centro Internazionale Della Grafica Venezia – commissioned nineteen artists to respond to Venice. The portfolio, titled Venice Yesterday Today Tomorrow, brings together significant Italian artists. Disparate in style and philosophy, these works present a portal into the lineage, tensions and desires of Venice, once the heart of Western art.
Giacomo Soffiantio’s ‘Pizzi e muvrineu’ is a work of intricate abstraction. Three orbs fall down the page, textures overlay one another.
An esteemed artist, Soffiantio exhibited at the Venice Biennale four times. The year this work was published he exhibited at the Quadriennel. For collectors of twentieth century art, ‘Untitled (Ibis of the Night)’ is a soaring find.
