In 1973, a printmaking studio in Venice – Centro Internazionale Della Grafica Venezia – commissioned nineteen artists to respond to Venice. The portfolio, titled Venice Yesterday Today Tomorrow, brings together senior Italian artists. Disparate in style and philosophy, these works present a portal into the lineage, tensions and desires of Venice, once the heart of Western art.
Giacomo Porzano’s strangely alluring ‘Untitled (Clouds over Venice)’ heaves with symbolism. Over inky water rears an amorphous cloud, more beast than condensation. A storm is brewing over Venice, Porzano warns.
An esteemed artist, Porzano is represented at the United State’s National Gallery of Art and the Museum of Modern Art, New York. He also participated in the Venice Biennale. For collectors of twentieth century art, this work is an exhilarating find.
An esteemed artist, Ramous’s work will enliven collections of twentieth century art.
