Lisa Banks is a Melbourne-based artist who works across painting, drawing and mixed media collage. In her ever-evolving artistic style, Banks often uses vibrant and contrasting colour to challenge traditional understandings of genre, drawing from her local and everyday life, and re-imagining its artistic potential.
In ‘Performance’, Banks crafts a still life composition using a distinctly abstracted approach. Drawing inspiration from ramekins belonging to her home, Banks uses contrasting colours and strongly-outlined shapes to create the impression of kitchen ephemera drifting through an ambiguous landscape. The effect is immediate - through challenging what we understand a still life to be, this painting exists in a world between the familiar and the unknown.
Over her career, Banks has exhibited in group and solo shows across Melbourne. For collectors of abstract works, or those looking for a creative approach to still life painting, Bank’s paintings are a vibrant and joyful discovery.
