Lisa Banks is a Melbourne-based artist who works across painting, drawing and mixed media collage. In her ever-evolving artistic style, Banks often uses vibrant and contrasting colour to challenge traditional understandings of genre, drawing from her local and everyday life, and re-imagining its artistic potential.
In this collaged work on paper, Banks crafts a still life composition using a distinctly abstracted approach. Drawing inspiration from ramekins belonging to her home, Banks uses bold, contrasting colours and strongly-outlined shapes to create the impression of kitchen ephemera drifting through an ambiguous landscape. The effect is immediate - through challenging what we understand a still life to be, this painting exists in a world between the familiar and the unknown.
Over her career, Banks has exhibited in group and solo shows across Melbourne. She has been a finalist in several award awards, including the Len Fox Painting Prize, the Benalla Nude Art Prize, and the Muswellbrook Art Prize in 2023. For collectors of abstract art, Bank’s works are a vibrant and joyful discovery.
