Susan Baran is a Sydney-based artist, printmaker, and printmaking tutor, best known for a practice that frequently incorporates the photopolymer photogravure technique. In Baran’s prints, worlds unfold vividly. Intricately and deliberately composed, her vibrantly coloured images of everyday objects appear at once otherworldly and unfamiliar, infused with a tangible sense of surreality.

In her work ‘Alcazar Gardens Seville’, Baran creates an intriguing composition. Curating together saturated imagery of the Alcazar in Spain, the artist creates an intriguing, dreamlike sense of place. As with much of Baran’s works, this print appears as a representation of the artist’s personal experience, pieced together from fragments of memory.

Across her career, Baran has exhibited extensively in both group and solo exhibitions throughout Australia. Her prints are held in several public collections, including the Art Gallery of New South Wales, Artbank, and the Print Council of Australia, where she serves as a committee member. For collectors drawn to vibrant, layered contemporary printmaking, Baran’s works would make an intriguing and distinctive addition to any collection.
