Susan Baran is a Sydney-based artist, printmaker, and printmaking tutor, best known for a practice that frequently incorporates the photopolymer photogravure technique. In Baran’s prints, worlds unfold vividly. Intricately and deliberately composed, her vibrantly coloured images of everyday objects appear at once otherworldly and unfamiliar, infused with a tangible sense of surreality.

In her work ‘Le Cafe du Commerce, Paris’, Baran creates an intriguing composition. Collating together two unrelated images, the artist creates a vivid sense of place, with the composition appearing at once like fragments of the artist's memory.

Across her career, Baran has exhibited extensively in both group and solo exhibitions throughout Australia. Her prints are held in several public collections, including the Art Gallery of New South Wales, Artbank, and the Print Council of Australia, where she serves as a committee member. For collectors drawn to vibrant, layered contemporary printmaking, Baran’s works would make an intriguing and distinctive addition to any collection.
