In this poignant work, Auguste Blackman captures a resting bird. A figure of dreams, memories and vulnerability, ‘Dreambird’ it at once warm and melancholic, touched by the artist’s recent loss. It speaks to the passing of Auguste’s father, Charles Blackman and friend Mirka Mora, both of whom were iconic Australian artists.

For Auguste, birds represent care, poetry and the flight of imagination. Cast in feathered brushstrokes and vivid hues, this work recalls Mirka, who started drawing at Charles’s encouragement.
