Lewis Carroll’s Alice recurs throughout Charles Blackman’s work, captured under his hand as a figure entwined with his former wife and muse, Barbara Blackman. In this rare and original screenprint, Alice bounds across the page, motifs from Wonderland fanning around her like a hand of cards. There is a top hat, White Rabbit and Queen of Hearts, each moving between shadow and form.

This Alice drifts between imagination and reality – is she running or falling, soaring or drifting? Iconic and elegant, ‘Alice’ is a compelling find for collectors of Blackman and his Alice in Wonderland works, a monochrome expression of adventure, inspiration and dreaming.
