Alices Foot is an etching from Charles Blackmans beloved Mother Goose series of 1977. It was printed at Well House Press which was the studio the Blackmans established in their home at 159 Paddington Street, Sydney. The name of the press comes from an original convict-built well that was on the Blackmans property. The Mother Goose Series was produced in collaboration with master printer Satish Sharma, who dramatically described his collaboration with Blackman as "magicians leading each other from madness to madness."

Auguste Blackman worked as the studio assistant at Well House Press. He gives us an insight into the innovative and challenging nature of producing the series.
“We devised a way of Charles working directly onto sheets of laser cut perspex. No one has attempted this before as the artist has to have immense confidence, a very strong hand and a will of iron to etch directly onto the perspex sheet. The stylus does not want to make a curvy line due to the nature of the way the Perspex is made… Plexiglass or Perspex determined the low edition of 20 only as the plates were delicate and we could only extract a certain amount of passes under the roller before the drypoint etch flattened out! “ Satish went further to say
"etching is like a man-eating tiger - once it gets hold of you it wont let go."

This work of art comes from the National Australia Bank Collection. Rare to market this museum-quality work is a tale your whole family can treasure.
