Dated circa 1964, this original drawing is an example of Charles Blackman’s motif of the interior. He envisioned numerous scenes of figures, typically women, inside, the viewer gazing in. They operated as poetic metaphors for the unknowability of another person – the tension between connection and loneliness.

Provenanced from Charles Blackman’s personal collection, this work has never been owned. It is an enriching find for collectors of Blackman and modernist drawings, accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity from the Charles Blackman Foundation and hand-signed by the artist.
