Welcome to The Drama from The Masterwork Series by Charles Blackman. The Drama was born from Charles Blackman's fascination with the theatre. While living in London, he looked after Max Nicholson’s collection of plays - many of which of he read to Barbara Blackman, or saw performed. Interested in the universality of these stories, The Drama speaks to the personal and profound. Melting from shadow to light, these figures express Blackman's own anxieties through provoking the fragility of human connection.

The Masterworks Series is an unprecedented revival of Charles Blackman's oeuvre, gleaned from the artists powerful image making from of the late 1950's and early 1960's. Vital to the images in this series are experiences recognizable to us all. From lost love to the inevitable close of childhood - Charles Blackman' s ability to feel the beauty and pain of life through his art is core to what makes him a living legend.
