In the works of Anthony Buselli, familiar neighbourhoods are transformed into evocative impressions of place. His landscapes balance recognisable architecture with gestural brushwork, allowing buildings, streets and gardens to emerge through layers of colour and atmosphere. Rather than simply documenting a location, Buselli paints the experience of being within it - how a place is remembered, observed and felt.

In ‘Yellow Wall’, the artist presents a distinctly suburban scene from an elevated vantage point, perhaps from a neighbouring house. A collection of homes unfolds across the canvas, their rooftops, gardens and architectural forms loosely defined by expressive brushwork. Each home appears to exist as its own private world: close enough to form part of a community, yet distinctly separate. There is a gentle intimacy to the scene, capturing the peculiar familiarity of suburban life.

Since 1999, Buselli has exhibited extensively in solo and group exhibitions across Australia. His work has been selected as a finalist in several major national art prizes, including the Gosford Art Prize, Hawkesbury Art Prize, Wynne Prize and Mosman Art Prize, for which he has been selected five times throughout his career. In 2023, he was awarded the People’s Choice Award at the Paddington Art Prize.
