Charles Blackman stands among Australia's most beloved and collectable artists. With a career as distinct as it is diverse, his work is consistently informed by a sense of childlike wonder.

In this work, Blackman pictures a figure carrying a vase of flowers. The work is intimate, the figure’s expression distantly melancholic, tempting the question - what are these flowers for? Carries for the breadth of human emotion, Blackman spent much of his career transcribing florals. As he once reflected, flowers “evoked the people in a certain kind of gentility, or substance, or reverence, or sensitivity”. Rather than we to them, flowers change us. One cannot help but to stop and admire a plant in bloom, eyes misty and hands tempted to take.

This poetic work exemplifies Blackman's mastery of graphic practices. An elegant find for fans of Blackman and modernist art, don’t miss ‘Face and Vase’.

This work is available framed or unframed. If you would prefer a different frame than the silver one pictured with the blue graphic, please reach out as rates may differ.
